"Won't be long now, Jake."

Singing as he works, this miner doesn't tell what lies ahead.A “New” Ride:  Today, the “new” ride offers fun, excitement, thrills and chills with many unexpected twists.  The tale is woven around the discovery of an old abandoned gold mine, which appears innocent...until folks start disappearing!  While there are fun and hi-jinks in the first part of the mine, hidden passageways connect the main cavern to a netherworld where the Grim Reaper himself holds sway: A place of no escape.

The Challenge: To take an old, worn out dark ride and turn it into an exciting new attraction.

Under a development contract for a multi-stage rehabilitation, an on-site study of the old mine ride was conducted by the Sally design team. From three new ride concepts proposed, Canobie management selected The Mine of Lost Souls.

“It’s both exciting and fun,” says Sally CEO John Wood.  “And quite scary as you dodge rock falls, dynamite, torrents of rushing water, a sword aimed at your head and the grasp of the Grim Reaper.”  Special effects–ranging from water cannon, heat, smoke and fire to Pepper’s ghosts and video spirits; numerous animatronic characters and props, custom music and sound effects all helped give Canobie Lake just the attraction it needed.
